We all know that the cheetah is the fastest land animal and that the tallest one is the giraffe. You may not know, however, that these are some very tame records compared to other entries in the Guinness Book of World Records. Here are four of the craziest records ever set by animals that will blow your mind... and make you tell your own pet to stop slacking off and start setting records!
First human-sheep chimera
The first record on our list might just be the most bizarre. In 2007, Professor Esmail Zanjani of the University of Nevada unveiled the first human-sheep chimera. For those of you who aren't science-fiction or mythology fans, a chimera is a creature that is a hybrid of two totally different creatures; in this case, a combination of a sheep and a human. The cells of this chimera are 85 percent sheep and 15 percent human, and took around seven years and more than $6 million to make. The purpose of its creation (which was made by injecting human cells into a sheep fetus) was to advance research on creating animal organs that can be transplanted into human bodies in emergencies.
Tallest cow ever
The "tallest cow ever" was named Blosom and lived in Orangeville, Illinois. She was almost 6 feet, 4 inches tall from her hoof to her withers when she was measured on May 24, 2014. Sadly, the 13-year-old cow died almost exactly a year after receiving her world record. Her owners are happy that she lives on in the record books, even though Blosom herself didn't really seem to care much about fame. "As long as she had her oats, and daily chin rubs and ear scratches," they said, "life was good."
Most basketballs slam-dunked by a parrot
If you're like us, you are probably imagining a parrot trying to dunk a human-sized basketball. Zac the parrot, though, won this record for dunking a much smaller ball into a hoop 22 times in one minute — which is equally mind-blowing! That's not all Zac can do though: he can also ride a skateboard, a bike, and a scooter; raise a flag; and do many other tricks, which he used to perform at children's birthday parties before he retired. As if that weren't enough already, he can say 100 words too, and holds the record for most soda cans opened by a parrot in one minute. That is one impressive bird!
Longest tongue on a dog
If you think your dog's tongue feels long as she licks your face, just know that that tongue has nothing on this one. Mochi, a St. Bernard owned by Carla and Craig Rickert of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, has a tongue that is an incredible 7.31 inches long. Mochi was a rescue dog, adopted by the Rickerts when she was 2 years old. Even though people often laugh at poor Mochi's monster tongue, her family loves her "unconditionally," and wouldn't have her any other way. Probably because with a tongue like that, she gives the best welcome-home kisses!
